ANNOUNCEMENT

Deaf/Athletic & Alien Father

Hello all, my name is Conor.  i’ve been holding up over at tamur.records since 2004 shooting words into the void and putting up a plethora of free music (see: the Catalog) on-again and off-again for years, but now i’ve been offered a home over here and i intend to fix up a bed and bring over a few guitars and some crappy records to laugh with — telling stories into the night & into the dawn about a chunk of New Jersey that is South but not too South and North but not too North… an area that cradles the shit capital Trenton with a 295N that turns into a 95S that heads straight West until it crosses the Delaware into Pennsylvania.  Mercer County.  Hunterdon County (for a 40 minute or so radius), a small stretch of Burlington County (for a couple great tattoo artists and grandma’s house), and a trailer park at the beach through Ocean County all the way to our border with the Atlantic.

That’s where i’m from.  more specifically, i’ve lived in Robbinsville, Montgomery, Lambertville, Manhattan NY, Jersey City, North Bergen, Pittsburgh PA, Holgate, Newtown PA, and now Trenton.  and while my intention is to give myself some kind of introduction in my first post, i don’t want to spend a whole post talking about myself… i’m just not that interesting.  SO! more importantly:

There’s a show coming up… and i’m excited.  SUPER EXCITED.

It’s in Trenton.  it’s at a bar (Champs) that i’ve spent more time in than i’d ever thought i would for a couple of good reasons.  great reasons.  but the reason this show is so important to me is because it’s the debut of a band that i’ve been very close to before, during, & after its conception: Deaf/Athletic (photo above).  they don’t have a website or a demo so don’t bother googling…  this write-up will probably be your only result after the USA Deaf Sports Association. there’s a little bit of hype about them going around the “Trenton Metro Area” and here’s why:

  • Dusty Lynn (vocals): bartender at Champs, used to tend at Mill Hill, Nate’s and others.  Certified Massage Therapist. will be entertaining and loved whether she fails or blows minds.  849 facebook friends.
  • Alec Gabin (guitar/vocals): was in the Canaries, the Pidgeons, WU-BANG, has recorded 9 albums and played shows in and around New York as Every Bunny Welcome w/ Ray Weiss (Le Rug, Sweet Bulbs) on drums, & most recently has completed an album entitled “Sky & a Flag” under the name ShitSleeper.  recently joined facebook.
  • Kevin (King Vagine): is so nice he’ll help you do your laundry while playing play-dough with your 3 year old.  he’s also a pretty nasty drummer.  899 facebook friends.

And on top of all that,

  • Alien Father are playing too.  but i’m in Alien Father now, so i have to stop telling people how cool they are… all i’ll say is that we’ve been mixing a 7″ (“World of Treble” EP) and a full-length album (“Nippon in the 21st Century”) that we recorded at Mercy Sound in Manhattan with Joe Plourde, & the last show we played shut down the Basement Gallery in Ewing back in November.  it’s going to be fun.

So if you’re anywhere near Trenton on the 21st, show up.  if you tell me you read about it on JOYdropper, i’ll buy you a drink.

Here’s the Facebook Event page.  the show is friday, january 21st at 7pm and it costs $10 (pennies accepted).

Hope to see y’all there and i hope real life leaves me alone for just enough time, sometimes, whence i can contribute here more frequently.  it’s been lovely to meet you.
